How we compare dental insurance

Last updated 11 September 2026

On tandartsverzekering-vergelijken.nl we compare the dental insurance of Dutch health insurers. On this page you read where our data comes from, how often we check it, how we earn money and what we do not do.

What we compare

  • The premium per month and, where it differs, the premium per age group.
  • The maximum reimbursement per calendar year and the reimbursement percentage per type of treatment: check-ups, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and implants, and the dental hygienist.
  • Whether you are accepted without medical questions, whether a waiting period applies and what is reimbursed after a dental accident.
  • Whether you can take out the dental insurance separately, or only together with basic insurance from the same insurer.
  • On the English pages: how much the insurer offers in English, such as English information pages, documents, customer service or an English application form.

Where our data comes from

We collect premiums and conditions directly from the insurers wherever possible: their product pages, premium overviews, policy conditions and the mandatory product information documents (IPID). For the cost of treatments we use the maximum tariffs of the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) and the example calculations of the Royal Dutch Dental Association (KNMT). If we cannot verify something with the insurer itself, we name the source we did use, or leave it out. The sources are listed at the bottom of every page.

How often we check

Health insurers publish their premiums and conditions for the new year by 12 November. From that day we update all pages and add the date of our check. We also update pages during the year when an insurer changes something. Is something no longer correct? We correct it as soon as we have checked it with the insurer.

How we earn money

This website is free. If you take out insurance via a link on our site, some insurers or comparison sites pay us a fee. This runs through affiliate networks such as Awin and Daisycon. You do not pay this fee: the premium is the same as when you go to the insurer directly.

  • We also show insurers that do not pay us anything.
  • The size of a fee does not determine what information we show or what we write about an insurance.
  • Pages with links for which we may receive a fee have a notice at the bottom of the page.

Order in the comparison

In the comparison on dental insurance in the Netherlands, the insurers we work with through an affiliate network are shown at the top. We sort them from the lowest to the highest monthly premium for a dental module with about €250 cover per year. If you click a premium link and then take out insurance with that insurer, we may receive a fee.

Below that, under “Other insurers”, are insurers we do not (yet) work with, with their comparable module and premium. The order therefore says nothing about which insurance suits you best. For that, look at the cover, the reimbursement percentage and whether you can take out the module only together with basic insurance.

What we do not do

  • No personal advice. We provide general information and example calculations. Which insurance suits you depends on your own situation; always read the insurer’s conditions.
  • No brokering. You always take out insurance with the insurer itself. We do not ask for or store personal data such as your date of birth.
  • No guarantee of completeness. We do our best to show all dental insurance completely and correctly, but the insurer’s conditions always prevail.
